When compared to well-known buildings with dynamic and inspiring forms and a mix of greenery, like Gardens by the Bay, Jewel Changi Airport, and others, or to buildings in the Central Business District, HDB architecture in Singapore usually appears monotonous and uninspired in its repetitive form.
In order to foster a fresh understanding of the HDB estates' meticulously planned and engineered architecture, I intend to use my photographic exploration to present these HDB buildings from an alternative viewpoint while highlighting some commonalities through their geometric shapes, lines, textures, colours, and repeating patterns. It also acts as a reminder that unexpected locations can have exquisite workmanship and beauty.
